West Coast General Hospital
Provides 22 services including medical imaging, a medical laboratory, telehealth, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and an All Nations’ Healing Room. 52-bed capacity with 3 in the Intensive Care Unit.
Urban Indigenous Community Health Centre
A new health centre is planned for the South Port neighbourhood. Managed by the Port Alberni Primary Care Network, the centre has an attachment target of 2,100. Purpose-designed to address the social determinants of health and the prevention of acute illness among low-income, street entrenched, and Indigenous priority populations.
First Nation Health Authority
The first and only provincial First Nations health authority in Canada. A satellite office is located on Tseshaht First Nation, next door to the city of Port Alberni. The health authority plans, designs, manages and funds the delivery of First Nations health programs.
Central Island Division of Family Practice
Non-profit society led by community-based primary care physicians and nurse practitioners. Manages family physician opportunities and recruitment, and incentives for relocating to Port Alberni. Operates the Port Alberni Primary Care Network focused on specific primary care needs identified for Port Alberni.
Human Network
Port Alberni has a strong network of professionally and socially connected physicians. Many have moved to the area for the active outdoor lifestyle, waterfront location and natural beauty, supporting a healthier work-life balance. Local Physicians are active on the West Coast General Hospital's Wellness Committee, which hosted Port Alberni's first Healthcare Summit in 2024, garnering regional and provincial attention.
Campus of Care
In coordination with local physicians, the Alberni Valley Healthcare Fund Society and the Low Energy Housing Society, Community Futures Alberni-Clayoquot is leading the push for the development of a Campus of Care: A multidisciplinary community health centre with on-site specialists, laboratory and pharmacy including housing for medical professionals and a daycare. This project is in its early stages and is currently seeking letters of support to extract land from the Agricultural Land Reserve for this development.
